AC/DC Artist Study: Gear & Tone

Malcolm used a Gretsch Jet Firebird plugged into Marshall amps (sometimes with the bass EQ rolled down). Angus used a Gibson SG into Marshall amps. He also used a wireless unit that added a bit of high end & compression, kind of like a clean boost or a treble booster.

Neither brother used pedals, like distortion or overdrive boxes. Just a simple & straight-forward classic tone of a humbucker guitar into a Marshall amp. It’s a very powerful sound but not very distorted and just on the edge of breakup.

Both Young brothers play with very dynamic and aggressive pick attack.
